Retrofit assessments
what is a retrofit assessment?
A very large proportion of the UK’s existing housing stock is old, some very old. While many of these houses are undoubtedly charming, they don’t tend to have been designed with energy efficiency in mind.
A retrofit assessment looks at how to improve the energy efficiency of a dwelling, and does this within a framework (PAS2035).
Following a well structured framework during the retrofit process is crucial to preventing costly errors. Poorly implemented retrofit work can lead to: worse energy performance, damage to the building, and an unhealthy indoor living environment for the residents – potentially requiring expensive remedial works.
What we advise
Get a professional retrofit assessment carried out if you are considering retrofitting your home.
A retrofit assessment will highlight the recommended measures, give an insight on cost effectiveness, and, point out works that should be carried out before any retrofit work is commenced.
The core goals of a retrofit assessment
A retrofit assessment should be the first step to retrofitting your home.
A retrofit assessment will take into account the condition of the dwelling and its occupancy. This will then be combined with an energy report on the building itself. Please bear the following in mind when booking a retrofit assessment:
- The assessor will ask about the number of occupants
- The assessor will NEED your energy bills for the last 12 months
- You will be asked some detailed questions about how you use the property
- It is critical for the assessor to document the condition of the property
