The ventilation System

The LowCarbonLiving Ventilation System is a demand controlled, whole house, low voltage, ductless, decentralised mechanical extract system. The system requires no complicated ducting or wiring, is DIY friendly, and can typically be installed within a day. The ventilation system takes true readings of CO2, Temperature and Relative Humidity to control ventilation.

By constantly adjusting the ventilation rate, the system ensures your home is never over or under ventilated, optimising indoor air quality while minimising space heating costs.

How the system works

The heart of the system is the Monitor. The Monitor constantly samples the air and measures CO2 using an industry standard NDIR sensor. It also reads Temperature and Relative Humidity, and uses these parameters to adjust the ventilation rate. The Monitor also records these readings to allow for the evaluation of ventilation adequacy. A particularly useful feature for evidence of legal/regulatory compliance.

The Monitor communicates wirelessly with independent fan controllers to adjust ventilation throughout the whole house. The entire system runs on 12 volts and requires no special electrical work as it plugs directly into normal domestic power sockets. It is also very frugal on electricity, consuming no more than about 3 watts per fan at full power, and even less for the control systems.

The components of the system

THE MONITOR : packed with sensors for CO2, Temperature and Humidity. The CO2 sensor is an industry standard NDIR true CO2 sensor while a BOSCH sensor handles temperature and humidity. Capable of controlling up to two extract fans directly.

THE REMOTE: receives data from the monitor and adjusts the speed of up to two extract fans to control ventilation.

THE BATHROOM FAN CONTROLLER: a controller for a bathroom extractor fan. Is additionally light and motion triggered.

EXTRACTOR FAN: a 12 volt, high output, 120mm fan. 140 m3/h output. The extract rate is infinitely adjustable.

The whole system runs on 12 volts and is thereby building regulations compliant even in bathrooms as long as plugged in outside the room.
